TGI Friday, friends! Here are my favorites from this week:

  1. The ipsy bag & Tarte lip paint. If you haven’t heard of ipsy, it’s a monthly subscription of samples of beauty products. I love makeup so it’s fun to try out new trends, and I’ve definitely found some items that I’d actually buy again. When I first started getting the bags each month, I wasn’t too impressed because it had a bunch of face products, and I’m really pick about what I use for my face. I stick with what I know works and am not into the newest cleansers. However, I started logging in and reviewing my bag (it took 2 minutes) and now I get mostly makeup, which is what interests me most. It’s a fun little monthly treat that costs about $10, and you get cute bags each month. I’ve been able to find a million uses for these little bags! This month the pink bag is giving me all the heart eyes. If you’d like to try it out, here’s my referral code: ipsy Glam Bag. 🙂
  2. My Cabine candle. I did a post last week about spring decor, and this soy candle was part of it. I have the Amber, Teakwood, and Leather candle and it smells so good. Even my hubby was impressed! Cabine is giving my readers 15% off with code ‘sheknowschic’ so head over to their site get your own candle!
  3. Alex & Ani bracelets. These bracelets are so fun and there are a million different styles. They remind me of the old charm bracelets, but updated. They have a bracelet for every occasion, and they just look better the more you wear!dock a tot
  4. Dock-A-Tot. Where was this when I had Ben? Charlotte took a minute to warm up to the Dock-A-Tot, but now she loves it! I love it because I can move it around the house. I haven’t used it for co-sleeping yet, but I plan to! Something about how it “hugs” the baby must be comforting. Love!
  5. This man. What else can I say? He’s just so good. This week I pushed it a little too much physically (still recovering I guess, whoops) and he was there every step of the way to take care of me and do all that he could around the house and with the kids. Sometimes I hate his fire schedule with him being gone for three days straight. But on the flip side, I get him for four straight days and that’s pretty amazing! We are so lucky he’s ours.

That’s it for Friday Favorites. Now go enjoy your weekend! 😉

spring decor faux fireplace bird cloclcandle candle
We still have 10 more days until the official first day of Spring, but we are getting some beautiful weather here in Sacramento that makes it feel like spring is already here. I love every season, and each one makes me appreciate the next. So while I love the rain, the sunshine and flowers are just what the soul needs right now! Today I’m sharing some easy spring decor that you can easily copy and it won’t break the bank!

When decorating for spring, anything in white or light and airy colors is perfect. I found all of these adorable spring items in the Target Dollar Spot (although most were $3). You can see from the photos that I already have a white faux fireplace and light blue walls, so it doesn’t take much to bring my living space into spring!

No matter the season, one thing that is always a part of my home decor are candles. This beautiful soy candle from Cabine smells heavenly and I love the simplicity of the design. When Amber from Cabine reached out to me to share their candles, I was excited to work with a local Sacramento company! Over the years I have found the greatest items when shopping local, and I love to support local businesses. Probably the coolest thing about Cabine is that a portion of every candle sold goes to support the Mustard Seed School, which is a free, private school serving homeless youth in Sacramento. As a teacher, I value education and find it admirable when a company wants to support their community in this way.  As a shopper, who wouldn’t feel good purchasing a candle that gives back? 😉

Cabine is kind enough to give all of my readers 15% off when using the code ‘sheknowschic’. Head over to their website to check out their candles, as well jewelry and other home items, and support a great cause!

To be honest, I barely even realized it was Friday! Usually it’s the most anticipated day of the week for me, but with this being my first week of maternity leave I’ve completely lost track of all time. It’s a great feeling! And also pretty weird, but I’ll save that for another post.

Today I’m sharing some of my favorite things that I’ve been enjoying or eyeing. It’s a little different than my usual outfit post, but there’s a lot more to my life. 😉

  1. This coffee mug: I picked up this adorable mug at Target and it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day. If there’s a coffee lover in your life you need to get them this! Target also has a ton of other love-themed mugs.
  2. I have been obsessed with this Burt’s Bees Mama Oil since my friend recommended it to me! I have been religiously using cocoa butter or this oil my entire pregnancy, and no stretch marks yet. Lately, it’s all about this oil though! The almond-lemon scent is the most amazing smell and I just want to take a bath in it! I put it on every night after I get out of the shower, and I haven’t had any problems with it getting on clothes. I’ll definitely be using it after baby girl comes, and I’m going to look for a bigger bottle when mine runs out!
  3. I came across this ‘sisters’ necklace on Instagram, and decided my sister and I need one! We always get each other little gifts, and this will be my treat! Plus, it’s only $10! My sister is always there for me and helps when we need her, so it’s a small token of my appreciation.
  4. These sneakers– I wish you could see my heart eyes right now. I noticed them on my last Target trip, but didn’t buy them because I was too lazy to take off my lace-up flats and find the right size (haha). I’m headed to Target again today, so I’m definitely trying them on and buying them! They’re the perfect pink color and will go with so much for Spring. I don’t own any slip-on sneakers, but the idea sounds great and they’re cute!

Happy Friday!

diy christmas table decor One of my favorite Christmas traditions is having my family over on Christmas Eve. We’ve been doing it for years now, and it partially started out to give my mom a break (we have a few Christmas celebrations in December with our large family).  I absolutely love it because it’s my chance to host and plan everything. It’s so much fun deciding on the tabletop and planning the menu. Since it’s only my immediate family it’s a small enough group that I don’t feel overwhelmed. It makes me feel like an adult! 😉 It also gives me a chance to get my creative juices flowing and create a DIY Christmas tabletop!

This year I chose to use more red in all of my Christmas decorations, including the table runner ($12.99 at Marshall’s!). I usually do a neutral table since that’s more my general “home style,” but I really like red during this time of year. Not pictured- arrangements of red roses and greenery that were on our kitchen island!

This DIY Christmas tabletop was simple and pretty much free. I asked my husband to cut a piece of cedar (laying around in our garage) and stain it, since I didn’t want the candles ruining the runner. Then I just pulled out my stash of white candles, which I’ve used for so many occasions, and made an arrangement on the board. I was able to find a bundle of greenery for $5 at my local grocery store, and I started adding a sprig at a time until it felt right.

Lastly, I had to add something special to each setting. I chose to use our everyday dishes since I didn’t want the runner to compete with my Christmas Spode that I sometimes use. At each place I used my favorite linen napkins  (I have them in Flax) and tied each napkin with string and a sprig of green. Confession: I snipped branches off of the back of our tree! I love how it was all simple but came together nicely. This DIY Christmas tabletop was pretty much free! I had all items on hand, besides the table runner that I had bought earlier this month.

I absolutely love having an excuse to plan party decor and menus, and Christmas Eve is my favorite time!

After buying a bunch of plants yesterday, I had to get down to business today! Thankfully the rain stopped while we were outside, and I was able to get these beauties in the ground.

Of course, my little helper was out with me and having the time of his life digging in the dirt. I picked up some kids gardening tools at Target so those kept him busy while I worked. If you have a toddler, you know how them “helping” actually makes life harder sometimes, and I that was the case today. I can’t tell you how many times I turned around to see Ben trampling over the freshly planted flowers. But, such is life. I reminded myself that what was important were the memories we were making, and not my control of the situation. Being a mom can be tough!

Here’s the finished product- definitely more work left to do! Would you believe that all those little flowers took hours to plant?!

I sure hope these April showers keep these flowers alive into May!
