Hi friends! Welcome to the first post in a new series I’m starting, called “Day to Date.” I am so excited to start this series and will plan to post in this series weekly. As a working mom, my clothes usually have to do double duty, so this is a perfect series for me to share!
I’ve found that as I’ve gotten older (read: become a grown up) my clothes are more modest and my work and weekend styles have a lot in common. So, I like to get creative in dressing up and down pieces of my wardrobe to fit the occasion.
I came home from work last week, and after a quick check in with my hubby that went like this- me: “Did you plan anything for dinner?” Hubs: “No, did you?” We reached a quick consensus that we needed to go out. Impromptu family date! I love to cook so we don’t eat out a ton, but it’s always nice to let someone else do the work. Mike snapped my picture from work that day, and then I rushed to change for dinner out.
Here are a few of my key tips for taking an outfit from Day to Date:
1. Change accessories. This is the #1 way to switch up any outfit! Change neutral (work) jewelry to something with a contrasting color, or dangly earrings. I’m a teacher so fancy earring are a little out of place with second graders. 😉 I love to dress it up on date nights. I took of my watch (who cares what time it is on date night!) and stacked a couple of bracelets instead. Jewelry is the best way to change an outfit! I also grabbed my Kate Spade purse, which is a change since I don’t usually take a purse to work.
2. Change your shoes. You can definitely get away without doing this, but for me it’s a must! You can usually find me in flats for work since I’m on my feet all day. When I’m changing and trying to dress it up, heels are a must. Besides, I can handle heels for a shorter period of time anyways. I am in love with any and all wedge sandals; they are so comfy and cute!
3. Change one piece of clothing. In the photos above, I simply changed my capris to skinny jeans. This isn’t a must, but the shoes wouldn’t have gone with my capris, so I had to! If I had been wearing ankle pants I probably would have been fine. Try it on in front of a mirror and decide! I have a professional dress code at work, so slipping into jeans is always fun for me. You could always put on a cute blazer or scarf instead of changing clothing pieces.
I hope these tips were helpful, please let me know if you have any other questions or ideas for my next Day to Date post. 🙂 Thank you for reading!
